kidzdaysbot
If you found this page in your server logs, hello. kidzdaysbot collects children’s and family event listings across the North West of England so parents can find them in one place. It is run by kidzdays, a family-run site operated by LIMIVEX Sales and Marketing Consultants. Listing is free, there is no advertising on the site, and nobody pays us to appear.
How to recognise it
It identifies itself on every request:
kidzdaysbot/1.0 (+https://www.kidzdays.co.uk/bot)
What it does
- Reads publicly published event listings: the date, the time, the venue, the price and a short description.
- Visits one page at a time per site, with a pause after each one, and never more than a few hundred pages from any single site in a run. It backs off when a server asks it to, and stops altogether if a site starts refusing.
- Reads and obeys your robots.txt before it reads any page, including Crawl-delay. It never goes behind a login, a paywall or a CAPTCHA.
- Fetches calendar feeds and listings APIs that organisations publish for software to read: a “subscribe to our calendar” .ics link, or a box office API documented as needing no key. Those are an invitation rather than something to crawl, so we use them as intended even where a blanket robots.txt rule would cover the path. Being straight about the consequence: a robots.txt rule will not stop those. If you want a feed of yours left alone, email us and we will drop it the same day.
- Runs once a night, not continuously, and never more often than that. Most sites see a handful of requests in that run and nothing at all until the next one.
What it does not do
- It does not seek out personal data. It reads published event listings, and if one happens to name someone or carry a phone number, that sentence is dropped rather than republished. If something slips through, tell us and it goes the same day.
- It does not republish your full description. It keeps the facts and at most a couple of sentences, and every listing links straight back to your page, so the visit and the booking come to you. Ask and we will shorten it further or drop the description entirely.
- It does not train an AI model on anything it reads.
- It does not submit forms, create accounts or make bookings.
To block it
Add this to your robots.txt and it will stop:
User-agent: kidzdaysbot Disallow: /
Or email hello@kidzdays.co.uk and we will remove your events and stop visiting. No argument, no forms, and we will not quietly start again later.
The opposite problem
If you run children’s activities and we are not listing you, we would rather fix that. Send us what you run and where, or a link to your calendar, and we will add it. Listing is free and always will be. More on how all of this works is on the sources page.
