Gulliver's World at Warrington is built for two to thirteen, which means nobody ends up watching from behind a fence. The Crocky Trail near Chester is muddy, slightly lawless and adored by anyone over about six. The steam railways belong here too and are better value than they look: East Lancashire, Ravenglass and Haverthwaite all sell family day fares, and a train that makes real smoke holds a four-year-old's attention longer than several things costing three times as much. Book online where you can. Most of these are meaningfully cheaper than paying at the gate.
A serious bouldering gym in Trafford Park with a proper kids' programme: coached hour-long sessions for £11 including shoes, classes from age 4, and a parent-led play session for under-5s. No ropes, no harnesses, just deep mats.

Pleasureland with a new name and a new deal: free entry, rides from £1 pay as you go. The seaside funfair is now Adventure Coast, split into themed lands from pirate cove to steampunk thrill rides, and you only pay for what your kids actually ride.
The best age match of anything on this list. Reviewers put the sweet spot at 2 to 10 and say a 4-year-old can do essentially the whole park; the map colour-codes areas by age and puts mini zipwires beside the full-size ones. Budget four to six hours.
The big one. Nickelodeon Land covers the primary ages properly while the Big One and the wooden coasters wait for brave older kids. August queues are real; go in expecting them and it is a great day.
