Up at Egerton on the edge of the moors, in a business park unit off Blackburn Road. It is a local centre rather than a destination, which is exactly the point: small enough that you can see your child from the cafe table, big enough for a proper frame for the over threes.
The baby and toddler section is separate, and under ones get in free. Open every day, 9am to 6pm. Prices are not published anywhere, so if the number matters, phone before you set off.
The oddity is the hairdresser tucked into the same building. Parents from Bolton treat this as completely normal and visitors find it baffling, which is a fair summary of Egerton generally.
Know before you go
- Seven days a week, 9am to 6pm, no seasonal shutdowns. That consistency is worth a lot when you are deciding at 8.40 on a wet morning.
- There is a children's hairdresser in the same building, which is either a useful two-jobs-in-one trip or a trap, depending on your child.

An independent at Westhoughton with an outdoor play area as well as the indoor frame, go karts on top, and a baby sensory room for the under ones. Free parking.
