Planet Ice runs the rink inside Blackburn Arena, near the town centre, and it is the ice rink for this side of Lancashire. Public skating is open to anyone aged 3 and up, and Sub Zero Disco sessions on Friday evenings put the lights down and the music up. For the smallest, Penguin Club is a session for children aged 5 and under with penguin skating aids, and one accompanying adult goes in free.
The catch is that Planet Ice does not publish Blackburn prices on the page. They show up only once you pick a session to book, so budget for a proper outing rather than a cheap one. Skate hire is not included, skating aids start at £7 an hour, and booking online adds 4%. If a session sells out you will not get in without a booking, which makes booking ahead the safer bet in half-term.
You can arrive at any point in your session and leave when you like, which helps with a wobbly first-timer. Hire skates start at a child size 8, and the clip-on skates suit any child size. There is a cafe on site. Lockers take cash only, £1 for three hours. If you end up going often, the Ice Card membership (£19.99 a year) gives discounts on entry.
What it costs: Session prices load inside the booking widget and were not readable. Skate hire is not included. Skating aids from £7 an hour. Online bookings carry a 4% fee. Lockers £1 for 3 hours, £2 all day, cash only.
