Science and Industry Museum
Working steam engines, the story of Cottonopolis, and hands-on galleries in the world's oldest surviving passenger railway station. Free, and the live demonstrations are the bit kids actually remember.

An arts centre in Hulme run entirely for children, which is rarer than it sounds. The building holds a cafe, a children's library and a gift shop, but the point is what you book: family theatre shows, classes, escape rooms for older kids, and Adventures in Wonderland, an immersive walk-through of the Lewis Carroll story with tunnels, mazes, fairground mirrors and a ball pool, made for ages 1 to 8.
Check the what's on page before you set off, pick a show or a timed Wonderland session, and build the trip around it, with the cafe for before or after. Ticket prices vary by event and some events are free. It is ten minutes from the city centre, so it pairs easily with a museum morning if you want a full day.
Know before you go
- Book before you travel - the building is free to walk into but the shows and Wonderland sessions are timed, and holidays get busy.
- The escape rooms are pitched at ages 8 and 9 plus, which neatly covers the child who has outgrown the ball pool.

Wythenshawe Park & Community Farm
A big south Manchester park with a proper community farm - pigs, goats, horses - a Tudor hall, and enough playground to earn the trip on its own. All free.
