An arts centre in Hulme run entirely for children, which is rarer than it sounds. The building holds a cafe, a children's library and a gift shop, but the point is what you book: family theatre shows, classes, escape rooms for older kids, and Adventures in Wonderland, an immersive walk-through of the Lewis Carroll story with tunnels, mazes, fairground mirrors and a ball pool, made for ages 1 to 8.
Check the what's on page before you set off, pick a show or a timed Wonderland session, and build the trip around it, with the cafe for before or after. Ticket prices vary by event and some events are free. It is ten minutes from the city centre, so it pairs easily with a museum morning if you want a full day.
What it costs: Adventures in Wonderland (ages 1 to 8) is £12 per adult or child, under-1s free, or four tickets for £40. Theatre show prices vary by show and there are free events in the programme.
Know before you go
- Book before you travel - the building is free to walk into but the shows and Wonderland sessions are timed, and holidays get busy.
- The escape rooms are pitched at ages 8 and 9 plus, which neatly covers the child who has outgrown the ball pool.
- The building is generally closed on Sundays and Mondays unless a show is on; Tuesday to Saturday it opens 9am to 5pm.

Shirts, trophies and match footage across four gallery floors, with a penalty shootout and skills games that football-mad kids refuse to leave. If yours do not care about football, skip it: it is exactly what it says.
Runway Visitor Park
Watch jets take off close enough to feel them, with Concorde parked by the fence. Free in, pay for parking, and there is a play area and cafe for the wait between planes.
Heaton Park
One of the biggest municipal parks in Europe: a free animal centre, a boating lake, playgrounds and enough space to lose a whole day in. You will not do all of it in one visit.
