A community farm doing the fundamentals with sincerity: small animal petting and horse rides, both held undercover, two outdoor play areas, woodland walks and a farm shop, at prices designed for repeat visits. Entry is £4 an adult and £3 a child, and under-ones go free.
It is Kirkby's quiet asset, never crowded, never slick, always liked. It opens 10am to 4pm every day, horse rides run at weekends and in the school holidays, and there is no need to book. The Oak Tree Cafe keeps shorter hours in winter, and dogs are not allowed on site apart from guide dogs.
What it costs: Adults £4, children aged 1 to 16 £3, under 12 months free. Small animal petting is £2 a person for a half-hour session and a horse ride is £3 for two circuits of the arena, both on top of admission. All tickets are non-refundable and valid only on the day of purchase. No booking needed, except groups of 15 or more.
Know before you go
- Small animal petting and horse rides run only at weekends, bank holidays and in the Knowsley school holidays (not over Christmas), so a term-time weekday is the farm animals and the play areas. Horse rides are at 11.30am, 12pm and 12.30pm.
- No dogs, except guide dogs.
