The best age-match of any paid attraction in the region. Treehouses, rope bridges, zip wires and boat rides built for ages 2 to 10, with the crucial design decision that a four-year-old can do nearly all of it: mini zip wires sit right beside the full-size ones.

Reviewers consistently say the same two things: the sweet spot is 2 to 10, and budget four to six hours because leaving early is the only regret. Tickets go by height rather than age, so anyone under 92cm is free, and it is not open every day in term time, so check the calendar before you set off.

It is woodland, so dress for mud and let them get on with it.

The treehouses, zip wires and wobbly bridges as normal, plus Twig or Treating with the characters, a spooky disco, face stencils and a Glowing Light Trail as the sun goes down. Open until 6pm so the light trail is the finale. A limited number of tickets carry 25% off on every date, so the first to book pay least.

A lit-up evening trail with snowmen, BeWILDerwood characters, Father Christmas somewhere along the way and a 20-minute mini pantomime; allow about an hour and a half. The play structures are shut for the event, there is very little cover and no dogs, so it is wellies, waterproofs and a word in advance with anyone expecting to climb.
