Illustration of Church Farm

Church Farm keeps it simple and small, which for toddlers is exactly right: goats to feed, guinea pigs to hold at the daily handling sessions, a straw-bale play mountain, and staff who clearly still enjoy watching a two-year-old meet a chicken.

It will not fill a whole day and does not pretend to. That is the trick of Thurstaston: farm in the morning, picnic on the common, then down the cliff path to the Dee estuary sand while the tide is out.

Know before you go

  • Pair it with Thurstaston beach across the common - fossils in the boulder clay if you look slowly.
  • The maize maze usually opens from late July - phone ahead if the maze is the point of the trip.
