Church Walk is one of Northwich Town Council's parks, a children's play area with an outdoor paddling pool beside it. The pool opens from mid April to September, weather permitting, and has staff on duty, though the council is clear that children must never be left unattended. There's a shop on site selling ice cream, snacks, tea, coffee and soft drinks, which covers most of what a hot afternoon asks for.
You have to book online. There is one session in the morning and one in the afternoon, and the booking system exists because the pool is popular: turning up on a sunny Saturday hoping to get in is the mistake to avoid. Children who are not toilet trained must wear swim pants. The pool can also be hired for private parties from 5.30pm to 7pm; ring the council on 01606 41510 to arrange one.
It's shut for the winter now, so this is one to bookmark for April. The play area next to it is there whatever the weather, and check the forecast before setting off in spring, because the council opens the pool only when conditions allow and a cold, grey morning can keep it closed. Vickersway Park, the council's bigger park with crazy golf, a playground and an aviary, is also in town.
What it costs: Online booking is required. The council's parks page does not state a price.
