Leyland's big free park with a proper hedge maze, arboretum, play areas and a miniature railway running summer Sundays. The maze alone is worth the detour.
Farington Park
Leyland, Lancashire
Farington Park is in the north end of Leyland and won its first Green Flag in 2025, which for 4.52 hectares of local park is a genuine result. South Ribble list a modern play area, outdoor gym equipment, a small sports pitch, meadow, woodland and an old mill pond that a local angling club fishes.
The detail that matters is the small free car park at the Bashall Grove entrance, because most parks this size expect you to walk in. There is no cafe and no toilet block on the council's list. It is an hour, and a well kept one, and a real alternative to driving everybody to Worden again.
What it costs: Free, with a small free car park at the Bashall Grove entrance. South Ribble publish no opening hours and list no toilets or cafe.
Know before you go
- Park at Bashall Grove. It is the only car park, it is free, and it is small, so a July Saturday may not go your way.
- The old mill pond is an angling water, not a feature with railings round it. Keep small children on the path side.

Paradise Park, Leyland
Twenty acres of woodland, glades and pond on the Moss Side edge of Leyland, with a dipping platform on the water. The paths were resurfaced in June 2026, so it is no longer a wellies-only proposition.
