Flip Out Rochdale

Flip Out Rochdale is on the Royle Pennine Trading Estate off Lynroyle Way, and counts 15 attractions: wall-to-wall trampolines, tumble tracks, a ninja obstacle course, battle beams, a kids arena, soft play and an inflatable park. It is the obvious answer in Rochdale when the forecast wins.
Sessions start from £9, and Flip & Bounce, an hour on the inflatables then an hour on the trampolines, is from £14. Toddler Time from £10 includes squash and toast for the toddler and a tea or coffee for you, which is the right way round. There are ASD and disability sessions from £5. Anyone aged four and under needs a paying adult with them.
Check the day before you go. In term time it is shut on Tuesdays, and the rest of the week it opens at 10.30am rather than first thing.

- Term-time hours: Monday, Wednesday and Thursday 10.30am to 7pm, Friday to 8pm, weekends from 9.30am, and closed Tuesdays. In the holidays it opens every day from 9.30am.
- Flip & Bounce is the one for a long rainy afternoon: an hour on the inflatables, then an hour on the trampolines.
Worth knowing: Children 4 and under need a paying adult with them.

Healey Dell Nature Reserve
A steep wooded gorge two miles out of Rochdale where the River Spodden churns through waterfalls beneath a 100-foot railway viaduct. Free and genuinely dramatic, but the paths are proper paths - boots, not buggies.
Queen's Park, Heywood
Heywood's Victorian park holds a Green Flag and earns it: two playgrounds with the toddler one kept separate, a lake, a BMX track and a community cafe. Flat tarmac paths.
Planet Play
A big three-tier soft play in Heywood with separate areas for toddlers, infants and juniors, a spook room and aerial runways. No booking, one adult free, and weekday mornings in term time are the toddler session.
TeamKarting
An indoor tarmac kart track in an old Rochdale mill that takes children seriously: junior sessions from age 8 in petrol karts, a Saturday morning Kids Club, and one-to-one starter coaching from age 6.
