A gritstone hill above Macclesfield with old quarry machinery to clamber round, a summit view across the whole Cheshire Plain and a good coffee shop at the bottom. Free apart from the pay and display car park.

Fun4All is the long-standing soft play on the Hurdsfield Industrial Estate, on the north-east side of Macclesfield. The main frame is built for over-fours: three levels with a climbing wall, air cannons, aerial gliders and a 10 metre wave slide. Under-fives have their own two-level frame with a ball juggler, scrambling nets and a rainbow slide, plus an enclosed vehicle track, and babies get a padded play pen.
The newer addition is Boost, a trampoline zone sold as an upgrade on a play session, and there is an enclosed sports pitch with goals and basketball nets. The cafe makes its meals on site. Weekend and holiday visits run in two-hour sessions, and booking ahead is recommended.
One warning. The price list and timetable on the website are still labelled Spring 2023, and at least one of its online booking links no longer works, so do not rely on either. The business updated its Google opening hours this summer and is trading; get the current price when you book, or ring them.

On that list weekend and holiday play was £8.50 (1 to 2), £9.50 (3 to 4) and £10.50 (5 and over), adults £3, with a Boost trampoline upgrade at £5 and Boost socks £1.50. Treat these as a guide only and check the price when you book.

Conifer forest and four reservoirs in the hills east of Macclesfield, with miles of forestry track between them. Herons nest at Trentabank and are visible from the path, so there is something to point at when the legs go.

A free museum of Macclesfield's silk trade in the old School of Art, with a paid add-on at Paradise Mill, where the Jacquard handlooms still stand where the weavers left them. Children get a Victorian millworker trail in the mill.
Superbowl UK Macclesfield
Bowling, Laser Quest and the Crazy Club soft play under one roof on the London Road, on the southern edge of Macclesfield. The early-morning and after-school bowling deals are properly cheap.
