Grip & Go

Grip & Go is Rossendale Leisure Trust's indoor climbing centre in Haslingden, and it is climbing for people who do not climb. There are 24 themed walls, from the Giants Staircase upwards, and children from 4 get a full hour in the arena after a safety briefing and harnessing.

It is £14 a climber. The Leap of Faith, where you climb to a platform and jump for a trapeze bag, is £3.50 a go or £5.50 for unlimited leaps, and it is the thing that gets talked about in the car home. Parents can go into the arena with their children free, as long as they watch the safety video.

Term-time sessions are after school only, at 4.30, 5.45 and 7, while weekends run every 75 minutes from 9 until the last start at 3.15. Book ahead: sessions have limited capacity. Ski Rossendale is a short drive over the hill if you want to make a day of the valley.

What it costs: £14 per climber for a 60 minute session. Leap of Faith £3.50 a go or £5.50 unlimited, paid at reception. Adults can go into the arena with their child free of charge but must watch the safety video.

Worth knowing: Age 4 and over.
