Ski Rossendale (The Hill)

Ski Rossendale, now branded The Hill, is an artificial dry slope on Haslingden Old Road above Rawtenstall. It teaches skiing and snowboarding, runs a kindergarten club from age 3 and Saturday clubs from 5, but the thing to book with primary-age children is tubing: you sit in an inflatable ring and slide down the slope, then do it again.
Tubing is for age 5 and up, costs £15 a person for 50 minutes, and runs at weekends with extra sessions in the school holidays. Tubes and helmets are provided, and there are changing facilities and free lockers. On Friday evenings at 6 there is Pizza n Tubing, £50 for a family of four including a 10 inch homemade pizza, which is the better deal if the timing works.
Hours are Tuesday to Friday 1 to 9, Saturday 1 to 4 for the public, and Sunday 10 to 4. Closed Mondays. There is a cafe at the bottom for the people not in rings.
What it costs: Tubing £15 a person for a 50 minute session, weekends plus extra school holiday sessions. Pizza n Tubing on Fridays at 6pm is £50 for two adults and two children (or one adult and three children) with a homemade pizza. Beginner ski courses and private lessons are also sold; check the site for current offers.
Know before you go
- Arms must be covered for tubing, even in summer. Waterproofs and sensible shoes, and arrive 15 minutes early.
- It is closed on Mondays, and general public hours on a Saturday are only 1 to 4 because the morning is club time.
Worth knowing: Tubing 5+. Kindergarten ski club from 3.
