Illustration of TeamSport Go Karting Preston

TeamSport's Preston track is on Brierley Road in the Walton Summit Centre, technically Bamber Bridge, a few minutes off the M6 and M65. There are two tracks under one roof. The main circuit is spread over three floors, and the second is a starter track the company describes as perfect for families and rookies, which doubles as the arena for Combat Karts, the video-game version with boosts and virtual weapons.

Ages are firm. Standard karting is for 8 and over, and Combat Karts is 13 and over, so this one is for primary school leavers and up rather than the whole family. The karts are electric. TeamSport does not put prices on the Preston page, so you only see the cost once you are in the booking system, which makes comparing tracks more tedious than it should be.

For everyone not driving it is cheap. Spectating is free and needs no booking, there are dedicated viewing areas, and the menu runs to burgers, pizzas, hot dogs and waffles. Parking is free off Brierley Road. One adult still has to stay with any under 16 throughout, so you cannot drop a group and disappear to the shops. Bring a book.

What it costs: TeamSport does not publish prices on the Preston track page; you see the figure in the booking journey. Watching is free and needs no booking.

Know before you go

  • Non-drivers do not need a ticket. Younger siblings can watch from the bar areas for nothing, but under 16s cannot be left alone while their adult is on track.
  • Wheelchair access is limited: only the starter track pit lane is accessible, and the main track and bar are not. Ring 01252 732300 before booking if that matters.
  • Bamber Bridge station is about a 15 minute walk away if someone fancies leaving the car.

Worth knowing: Karting from 8, Combat Karts from 13.
