The Beacon Museum
Four floors of galleries on Whitehaven harbourside covering the town's mining, shipping and rum-running past, with a bakery cafe attached. Exhibitions change, so a second visit is not a repeat.

The Fun House is Whitehaven's adventure soft play, a unit on the Red Lonning Industrial Estate, for children from babies up to age 12. The main frame is for the climbers and sliders, and there is a separate play area just for babies and toddlers, which is what makes it workable with mixed ages. It describes itself as built with parents in mind, which in practice means the cafe.
That cafe does hot meals, sandwiches, treats and hot and cold drinks, and it needs to, because outside food is only allowed at private parties. Opening times are the catch. Play sessions run 9.30am to 3pm Monday to Friday, but only 10.30am to 12pm on Saturdays and Sundays, when the afternoons are booked out for parties. Entry prices are not on the website, so ring ahead or check the booking page.
What it costs: Entry prices are not listed on the website.
