Illustration of The Moor, Knutsford

Knutsford's Moor sits at the bottom end of Tatton Mere, hemmed in by houses, and it has been a public park since 1907. Five and a half acres is not much, but it is well used: a toddler play area and a separate junior one, a picnic area, and a long stretch of benches facing the water where the ducks have learned exactly what a pushchair means. The value is in the location. You are a two minute walk from Knutsford's King Street, so a morning here can be bolted onto a bakery and a coffee without moving the car, and unlike Tatton Park up the road there is no vehicle entry charge and no ticket to buy.

Do not expect facilities. Cheshire East's own listing mentions play areas, picnic space, seating and paths, and stops there. No toilets, no cafe on site. It does list a pay and display car park opposite but does not say what it costs, so budget for coins. Sort the rest in town and the visit works fine.

Know before you go

  • This is the low effort alternative to Tatton Park on the same side of town. No entry fee, no vehicle charge, and you can walk into Knutsford for lunch in two minutes.
  • The toddler and junior areas are separate, which matters if you have one of each and only one pair of hands. There are no toilets listed on the site, so use the town centre first.

A thousand acres of deer park with a playground, plus a mansion, 50 acres of gardens and a rare-breeds farm bolted on. The trick is knowing the car fee covers the parkland and playground, and everything else is a separate ticket.
