Tatton is really two days out sharing a car park. The budget version: pay £9 to £11 for the car, depending on season, then you have 1,000 acres of deer park, walking trails, the Allen bird hide, picnic spots and the children's playground at no further cost. Red and fallow deer roam free, and for most primary-age children that is the day sorted.
The full version adds tickets: the 1930s working farm with rare breeds, 50 acres of gardens including the Japanese garden, and the mansion. Farm and gardens run £11 an adult and £9 a child each, so a family doing everything is into proper-spend territory. National Trust members do the mansion and gardens free, which softens it a lot.
The estate is run by Cheshire East Council on behalf of the National Trust, and it hosts big seasonal events all year, from pumpkin picking at the farm in October to the Halloween skeleton trail in the gardens.

Nine skeleton scenes hidden across 50 acres of autumn gardens, more daft than frightening, and the whole thing is covered by ordinary garden and parkland entry. It runs the length of half term but shuts on the Monday, which catches people out every year.
Wild Rumpus's dusk folklore trail through Tatton Park Gardens on selected dates, 14 November to 23 December. Off-peak November dates are cheaper. The first hour on 21 and 22 November is quiet and sensory friendly.
Father Christmas and his elves in a grotto down at the farm, with roaming entertainers, choirs, brass bands, crafts, a pop-up Christmas cafe and the farm animals joining in. Tatton also runs a decorated mansion and a Yuletide trail in the gardens, each booked separately, so be sure which one you are paying for.

Eagles, owls and vultures flown close enough to feel the wingbeat, at a sanctuary that is about the birds rather than the gift shop. Displays run through the day; small, and better for it.
Five and a half acres at the bottom end of Tatton Mere, a public park since 1907 and two minutes from Knutsford town centre. Two play areas, one for toddlers and one for bigger children, and benches facing the water.
Knutsford's only children's play centre, a space-themed soft play between Booths and the station with a rocket, a four-lane wavy slide and a separate baby and toddler zone. Adults go free, and nothing is booked.
