Illustration of Adventureland, New Brighton

Adventureland is the indoor play centre on Marine Promenade, and on a grey Wirral weekend it is where half of New Brighton's families end up. The operator lists a giant six-lane slide, bouncy inflatables, a ball pond, a castle with a drawbridge, snakes and ladders slides, rope bridges, a construction zone and two big trampolines with high nets. There is a mini climbing wall for over-4s, a goal shoot and a newer sensory room.

Under-3s get their own toddler soft play, so a small one is not trampled by a 10-year-old coming off the big slide. The upper limit is around 12, or 5ft tall, which rules out the older siblings who tower over everyone. There is a cafe selling tea, coffee and hot and cold snacks, and a seating area for parents who want to watch rather than climb.

Price is simple: £10 a child for the whole day, one adult per child free, extra adults £1. It only opens at weekends, bank holidays and school holidays, from 11am, with entry on the hour and last entry at 4pm. Plan on a couple of hours, and fold in a walk along the prom if the rain stops. Parties use a separate party room, so a birthday booking does not take over the main hall.

What it costs: £10 per child for the whole day. One adult per child goes in free, extra adults £1 each.

Know before you go

  • Entry is let in on the hour and the last session starts at 4pm, so turning up at 3.50 on a wet Saturday still works but leaves you an hour.
  • It is closed Monday to Friday in term time. Weekends, bank holidays and school holidays only, from 11am.
  • The beach and the prom are right outside, so on a half-decent day it is the wet-weather backup rather than the whole plan.

Worth knowing: Toddlers to 12, 5ft height limit.
