Billed as the UK's biggest soft play. A long drive for soft play, but it's the one that turns a rainy day into an actual event, and the seafront is right there.
Eastham Country Park

Eastham Country Park sits on the Wirral side of the Mersey, south of Bromborough, with some of the finest mature trees on the peninsula and wide views over the estuary from the cliffs. Twice a day the tide comes in over the sandbanks, mudflats and salt marsh, bringing wading birds and ducks close enough for a child with binoculars to spot them.
The park and car parks are open dawn till dusk, parking is paid, and the visitor centre, courtyard and toilets open 10 to 4. In spring and summer the Mimosa Tea Garden serves from 10.30 to 5.30. There is a dedicated dog-free area, useful if you have a small child who is nervous of dogs.
The detail children remember is the bear pit. It is empty now, obviously, but it makes a good story on the walk back to the car, and a good question to put to the rangers at the visitor centre.
What it costs: Entry is free; car parking is paid.
Know before you go
- The visitor centre and toilets are only open 10am to 4pm, and the Mimosa Tea Garden only in spring and summer (10.30 to 5.30), so in autumn and winter bring a flask.
- Time it with the tide: twice a day the Irish Sea floods in over the sandbanks and mudflats, and the cliffs are the place to watch the flocks of waders.

Church Farm
A small, friendly Wirral farm park with animal handling most days, a maize maze in late summer, and Thurstaston Common and the beach five minutes away for a two-stop day.
