Illustration of TeamSport Go Karting Manchester Trafford Park

TeamSport's Trafford Park track is a 450-metre indoor circuit on Wharfside Way, close to Old Trafford, with fast straights and a flyover that carries the karts over the lower level. Drivers must be 8 or over, which makes it one for older primary children and up. It is a short hop off junction 9 of the M60, and smaller than TeamSport's 550-metre Manchester Victoria track under the arena.

Spectating is free, needs no booking and happens from the bar areas, so a younger sibling can come and watch. Any under-16 needs an adult aged 18 or over with them, though, and children cannot be left on their own while their parent is on track. In practice that means two adults if one of you fancies a go. The menu is burgers, pizzas, hot dogs and waffles.

Prices and session times are only in the booking system, so look before you promise anything. Parking is free in the venue car park and there is free wi-fi. The building is partly wheelchair accessible, with a ground-floor spectator area and an accessible pit lane, but there are no facilities for hearing impairments. By train, Manchester United Football Ground station is about 15 minutes' walk.

What it costs: Prices and session times are only shown in the booking system. Spectating from the bar areas is free and needs no booking. Parking in the venue car park is free.

Know before you go

  • Under-16s must have an adult aged 18 or over with them, and children cannot be left alone while a parent drives, so bring a second adult if one of you is racing.
  • Non-drivers can watch free from the bar areas without booking.
  • By train, Manchester United Football Ground station is about a 15 minute walk via Wharfside Way.

Worth knowing: Drivers aged 8 and over.

War told through people's stories in a building designed to feel like a shattered globe. The hourly Big Picture Show projections fill the whole gallery and stop everyone mid-step. Heavy themes, handled well, and better for the top end of primary.

Two rides, a 4D cinema, build zones and Manchester's skyline done in miniature bricks. Squarely aimed at 3 to 10, and it knows it: adults can only visit with a child.

Real snow all year round at the venue Manchester still calls Chill Factore. Over-fours get the Snow Park with sledging, Downhill Donuts and an ice slide at weekends and in the school holidays; older kids can learn to ski or board on the UK's longest indoor real snow slope.

Home to what it bills as the UK's largest indoor play frame, with laser tag, ValoJump trampolines, a racing simulator and a zip wire that crosses the entire building. Older primary kids do not age out of this one.
