The Peter Rabbit garden at the end, with real vegetables growing in Mr McGregor's rows, is where the photographs happen.
Book ahead in the holidays: it is small, it is famous, and coach parties from three continents think so too. It pairs naturally with the lake steamers from Bowness pier five minutes' walk away, and with Hill Top, Potter's actual farmhouse, across the water via the Windermere ferry for families whose children want the real thing after the recreated one.
