Nelson's leisure pool under a pyramid roof, with a wave machine, a 130ft twisting slide and a new waterplay beach for little ones. A junior swim is £4.20 and a family of four £20.50, which is cheap for a wave pool.

Funda Land fills the ground floor of The Leisure Box at Northlight in Brierfield, and it is open seven days a week. The centrepiece is a giant active soft play frame, and around it sit bumper cars, a VALO interactive climbing wall, a UV laser tag zone, VR rides and a separate baby, toddler and sensory space. There is a cafe for the adults.
The headline is that term-time weekday soft play is free. Sessions run in two-hour slots most of the day, and the after-school slot from 3.30pm to 5.45pm, Monday to Thursday, adds the bumper cars. You still have to book online, and adults pay £2. Toddler groups run on some term-time mornings: Baby Time is £6.50 and Playgroup £7.50. On Friday afternoons the free slot gives way to Ultimate Party Time, £10 for a table of four.
Weekends and school holidays are a different deal. A 3 to 12 year old is £10 for two hours, 1 to 2s £7, and the Silver (£13) and Gold (£15) wristbands add bumper cars, the climbing wall and laser tag. The late Party Time slot is £10 for a table of four. Sessions start at 10am, 12pm, 2.15pm and 4.15pm, with a quarter-hour clean in between. Card only, no cash.
What it costs: Term-time weekdays: free two-hour soft play sessions (booked online), Baby Time £6.50, Playgroup £7.50, adults £2. Weekends and school holidays: 0 to 11 months £3, 1 to 2 years £7, 3 to 12 years £10, adults £2. Silver wristband (adds bumper cars and climbing wall) £13, Gold (adds UV laser tag) £15. Party Time, table of four £10. Card payments only.
