Illustration of Halton Leisure Centre

Halton's Widnes leisure centre does the unglamorous job well. Pool, teaching pool for lessons and small children, soft play area, gym, sauna and a cafe, all in the one building, which means a swim and a coffee and an hour of soft play without moving the car.

The reason to bother writing it up is the pricing. Halton publish a full fees and charges list as a downloadable document, effective from 1 April 2026, and the figures are genuinely low. A junior swim is £3.30. An under eight is £1.05. An adult is £6.00 with the steam room and sauna included, and a family swim for two adults and two children is £13.50. Soft play is £6.00 off peak on weekdays in term time and £7.50 at peak times, meaning weekends, school holidays and bank holidays. A day pass covering the lot is £10.00.

One naming quirk to be ready for. The centre's own social media still runs under the Kingsway Leisure Centre handle, and plenty of directories carry that older name, so if you search for Halton Leisure Centre and get confused results, the address to aim at is Moor Lane, Widnes.

Know before you go

  • Swim and soft play are priced separately, so a morning doing both is roughly £3.30 plus £6.00 per child in term time. Cheap, but it is not one ticket.
  • Soft play jumps from £6.00 to £7.50 at weekends and in the school holidays, so the Tuesday morning in term time really is the bargain.
  • A day pass covering everything is £10.00, which is the sum worth doing if you are planning to stay for the afternoon.
  • Older listings, and the centre's own Facebook page, still carry the Kingsway Leisure Centre name. If your satnav argues with you, the address you want is Moor Lane.
