The Little Cobbled Village

Role play centres are the antidote to the big soft play frames: no tunnels to fetch a crying toddler out of, just rooms of small wooden shops. The Little Cobbled Village opened in Lancaster in June 2025 with eleven of them, including a post office, fire station, Safari Vets, supermarket, builders yard, hair salon, tea room, baby care unit, a cottage and Patsy's Ice Cream Parlour. It is built for newborns to seven year olds.
Everything is booked in sessions of an hour and three quarters, starting 9.30, 11.30, 1.30 and 3.30, and the last 15 minutes is tidying the toys away together. The website does not publish the standard ticket price, so check it in the booking form. Babies who are not walking yet but will play are £4.50 extra, and bringing a third adult costs £1. Socks on for everyone.
There are quieter SEND sessions with fewer families in, which is worth knowing if the noise of a normal soft play is the problem. The cafe on site does hot and cold food, and nothing from outside is allowed in bar food for babies under one. Parking is free, right outside the unit.
What it costs: Standard child price is not shown on the website (it only appears inside the booking form). Listed add-ons: non-walking babies who play in the village £4.50, each extra adult beyond two £1. Memberships £25.99 (Bronze), £39.99 (Silver), £59.99 (Gold). Know before you go
- Everyone wears socks, adults included, and the desk sells them if you forget.
- No outside food or drink in the village, apart from food for babies under one. The cafe does hot and cold food.
- Sessions start at 9.30, 11.30, 1.30 and 3.30 and last an hour and three quarters, with the final 15 minutes spent tidying up. Children seem to enjoy the tidying more than you would expect.

Salt Ayre Leisure Centre
Lancaster's council leisure centre doing triple duty: Energy soft play, XHeight climbing walls and a 33m pool with a waterslide and inflatable sessions. Cheaper than the private soft play chains, and everything is under one roof for a wet day.
Crook O' Lune Picnic Site
Turner painted this view, which is worth nothing to a seven year old but does explain the crowds. A picnic site on the horseshoe bend of the Lune with tables, toilets and easy riverside walking.
Giggles Play and Adventure
Adults go in free and you only pay for the children who actually play. Giggles takes birth to ten in Lancaster Leisure Park, with the frames split by size so the crawlers are not flattened.
Ryelands Park
Forty-six acres north of the Lune with an accessible play area for under twelves, outdoor gym kit and five football pitches. Free parking, and a free junior parkrun every Sunday morning.
