Salt Ayre Leisure Centre

A big council leisure centre on the edge of Lancaster that quietly covers three rainy-day bases at once. Energy is the soft play, with dedicated toddler and baby sections and a 148cm height limit at the top end. XHeight is the climbing: 18 themed challenge walls in the Clip 'n Climb mould, from age five up, run as 50-minute instructed sessions.
Prices are the council kind. Soft play is £5.25 a child through summer 2026 (£6 from September), under-1s free. Climbing is £8 for juniors and must be pre-booked. The pool has a moveable floor, a spa pool and a waterslide, plus floats-and-inflatables sessions on the timetable. Outside food is banned in soft play but the Refuel cafe is on site.
It will not win style awards, but soft play, climbing and a swim in one building, with free parking, is a hard combination to argue with at these prices.

Know before you go
- On weekends and in school holidays soft play runs as pre-booked sessions, so book before you drive over. Term-time weekdays you can just walk in.
- The whole centre closes on bank holidays, which is exactly when you would think of going. Plan around it.

Crook O' Lune Picnic Site

Adults go in free and you only pay for the children who actually play. Giggles takes birth to ten in Lancaster Leisure Park, with the frames split by size so the crawlers are not flattened.
Ryelands Park
Forty-six acres north of the Lune with an accessible play area for under twelves, outdoor gym kit and five football pitches. Free parking, and a free junior parkrun every Sunday morning.
