Illustration of Memorial Park, Fleetwood

Memorial Park is Fleetwood's proper park, Green Flag since 2015, which for a town park is a reasonable signal that somebody is actually looking after it. Wyre list children's play areas, a duck pond, woodland, wildflower planting, picnic areas, seating and a pavilion, and there is an active gardening club keeping the demonstration garden going.

The free multi use games area is the underrated part: football, cricket or basketball, no charge, no booking. Parkour equipment sits nearby but is signed for over eights, so a six year old will look at it and be told no. Two tennis courts are bookable online through Club Spark, and the bowling greens are hired by annual or seasonal contract through the Marine Hall box office.

It is ten minutes from the town centre and about the same from the beach, which makes it a good first or last stop on a Fleetwood day. It will not fill one on its own.

What it costs: Free to walk into, and the multi use games area is explicitly free to use. Tennis courts are booked online through Club Spark and Wyre publish no court price on the park page. Bowling greens go out on annual or seasonal contract through the Marine Hall box office on 01253 887693.

Know before you go

  • The games court takes football, cricket or basketball, costs nothing and needs no booking. It is the most useful thing in the park and almost nobody mentions it.
  • Wyre's facilities list does not include toilets or a cafe. Assume neither, and note that the town centre and the beach are both about ten minutes away on foot.

Worth knowing: The parkour equipment is signed for over eights; the play areas cover the younger end.

A proper hands-on farm park at the top of the Fylde coast: feeding, petting, pony and tractor rides, and enough indoor barns to survive the weather. Flat £10 a head from age 1, which is the only catch.

Fleetwood's maritime museum on Queen's Terrace: the town's fishing story told for £4, with accompanied children free and Lancashire crumpets in the coffee house. Small and seasonal, so treat it as the indoor hour of a Fleetwood day, not the day itself.

The name undersells it. Fleetwood's seafront gardens hold a large playground with inclusive equipment, a skate bowl, a model boating lake the yacht club races on, bowling greens and pitch and putt. The beach is across the road.
