Days out with the kids in Fleetwood

2 places in Fleetwood, Lancashire. Everything below is within easy reach if you live locally.

2 in Fleetwood1 indoor

Fleetwood sits where the Fylde coast runs out, and the tram is genuinely half the attraction: ride it up from Blackpool along the front and the journey outranks most of the piers. Farmer Parr's is the anchor once you arrive, a proper hands-on farm park with pony rides, tractor rides at set times and enough indoor barns to shrug off sea weather. Flat £10 a head from age one is the only catch.

Fleetwood Museum on the front tells the trawler story, small and cheap and run by people who plainly mean it, though it keeps seasonal hours, so check before promising it. Add the prom, the boating lake and chips eaten against the wind, and that is Fleetwood. Blackpool's full arsenal waits twenty minutes back down the tram line when the town runs dry.

Fleetwood's maritime museum on Queen's Terrace: the town's fishing story told for £4, with accompanied children free and Lancashire crumpets in the coffee house. Small and seasonal, so treat it as the indoor hour of a Fleetwood day, not the day itself.
