Partridge Lakes started as a potato farm, became a big name in match fishing, and has slowly turned into somewhere families go without a rod. Opposite the lakeside cafe is Partridge Park: a 1km path round a lake, wheelchair and pram accessible, open every day from 7.30am to 7.30pm. It is a walk-and-a-cake place, not a playground.

On selected weekends there are pedalos on the Partridge Park lake, £15 a boat for 20 minutes, with a pizza and ice cream hut alongside. Dates are announced as they go, so it is not a plan you can make a month out. If a child is keen on fishing, there are junior day tickets and a junior league, and every under-16 needs an adult on the bank.

Autumn is when it earns its listing. Halloweenville, an after-dark family trail through the woods round the lakes with timed arrival slots, runs from 2 October to 1 November 2026. Then on 5, 6 and 7 November the fireworks return as a laser show and a very low-noise display over Gold Lake, redesigned to suit young children and pets, with covered seating round fire pits.

What it costs: Pedalos are £15 per boat for a 20 minute session, on selected weekends only, with tickets released at 6pm on the Tuesday before. No charge is published for the lakeside walk. Halloweenville and the November fireworks are ticketed separately and their prices were not shown on the pages we checked. Junior fishing day tickets are listed at £8 under a 2025 heading.

Know before you go

Pedalo dates are announced week by week and tickets go on sale at 6pm on the Tuesday before, so join the mailing list rather than turning up hopeful.
Dogs are welcome in the cafe but not on the fishing lakes. Any under-16 fishing needs an adult with them the whole time.

A Halloween storybook trail through the woods round the lakes at Culcheth, billed as spooky, not scary, and made for families and 'little adventurers': help Victor the Skeleton and Luna the Witch break the Skeleton King's curse. Pram and wheelchair friendly. Early bird tickets are £2 off, infants need a ticket too, parking is £5 booked ahead, and the cheaper early dusk slots from 5.20pm suit small children best.

Laser and Low Noise Fireworks at Partridge Lakes

A laser show and a very low-noise firework display synchronised to music, redesigned so it is fine for pets and young children. There is undercover seating with fire pits under a big tent, which helps if the weather turns.
