Planet Ice Altrincham

Altrincham's ice rink sits on Oakfield Road, and Planet Ice has been pointing its Widnes customers here while that rink is temporarily closed. Across its rinks Planet Ice runs public sessions for ages 3 and up, disco skates under coloured lights, inclusive skate sessions with free skate hire and aids for disabled skaters, and learn to skate courses; the booking tool shows which are on at Altrincham each week.
For first-timers under six, Penguin Club is the one to look for: a session just for 5 and unders with penguin skating aids to push, and one adult admitted free. Under 12s must wear gloves, £1 at the door if you forget. Planet Ice has recently put in a new refrigeration plant and a new ice resurfacer here.
What it costs: Planet Ice's skating page shows public skating from £10 and skating aid hire from £7 an hour, but it does not say whether that is the Altrincham price or whether skate hire is included; check when booking. Gloves for under 12s cost £1 at the rink if you forget them.

The Altrincham park that has everything in one place: two age-split playgrounds, a basketball court, tennis, a cafe, toilets and a car park. Grade II listed, Green Flag, and flat.
Halecroft Park
Hale's local park, and one of the few small ones in Trafford with its own car park and toilets. Playground, tennis, ornamental beds and a wildlife garden the Friends group planted.
Denzell Gardens
A walled Victorian garden on Dunham Road with a sunken garden, an orchid meadow and an ornamental pond. Green Flag, and quiet. There is no playground here, so know that before you drive over.
