Denzell Gardens

Denzell Gardens sits behind Denzell House on Dunham Road, a Victorian merchant's garden that Trafford now run with a Green Flag Award and a volunteer group who turn out every Monday morning. The layout is the appeal: a sunken garden, an ornamental pond, a lych-gate, a peace garden and a collection of unusual trees, with a meadow that carries orchids and wildflowers.
This is the outlier in Altrincham's parks. There is no playground and no cafe, and Trafford do not confirm a car park, so it is a walk and a look. Nobody is burning off a five year old here. It works best as the second half of a morning, thirty minutes after the Devisdale next door, or as somewhere to take grandparents who want to sit down.
Know before you go
- There is no play area. Trafford's facilities list does not include one, and pretending otherwise is how you ruin a Saturday. Come for a wander, a pond and an ice cream, or pair it with the Devisdale next door.
- Orchids come up in the meadow from late spring. Give a seven year old a phone and a plant app and it becomes a treasure hunt.
