Illustration of Halecroft Park

Halecroft Park is the main green space in Hale, run by Trafford with a long-standing Friends group who have a written plan for the place. The facilities list is short and honest: a children's play area, tennis courts, a full-size football pitch, ornamental gardens, a wildlife garden, toilets and a car park.

It is a local park doing local park things well, which is different from a country park and should be judged that way. An hour, maybe ninety minutes with a picnic. What earns it a place on a day-out list is the combination of parking and toilets, because the alternative in Hale is parking on a residential street and hoping.

What it costs: Free. No admission charge published. Trafford list a car park and toilets on site with no charge mentioned for either.

Know before you go

  • Car park and toilets on site. For a park this size that is unusual, and it is the reason to choose it over the pocket parks around Hale.
  • The wildlife garden is worth ten minutes with a bug pot. It is small, but it is planted for insects and a five year old will find things in it.
