Stamford Park

Stamford Park is on Stamford Park Road between Altrincham and Timperley, a Grade II listed Victorian park with a Green Flag Award and the fullest facilities list Trafford publish for anywhere in the borough's south. Ornamental pond, big bedding displays, bandstand-era layout, all of it kept up by the council and a large Friends group.
Practically, what matters is the split: an under 5s play area and a separate junior play area, so a toddler is not being flattened by nine year olds. Add a basketball court, tennis courts, a full-size football pitch and a bowling green and there is enough to hold a mixed-age group for a proper morning.
The supporting cast is the reason to choose it over the smaller Altrincham parks. There is a cafe in the park, public toilets, a car park and uncovered bike stands. Nothing here needs booking and nothing is charged for beyond whatever you buy at the counter.
Know before you go
- Under 5s and juniors get separate playgrounds, and there is a basketball court for whoever has outgrown both. That spread is why this one works for a birthday-sized group.
- Cafe, toilets, car park and bike stands all on site. On the list of Trafford parks, very few tick all four.
