Illustration of Dunes Splash World

The Dunes complex on the Esplanade holds Southport's answer to a washout: an indoor waterpark kept at 29 degrees with flumes at several nerve levels, a wave machine on a timetable, a lazy river, and a toddler zone of cannons and tipping buckets that holds the under-fours as long as anyone lets it.

Prices are honest for the sector: £11.90 adults, £8.30 to £9.40 for children by age, £3.20 for under-3s, and the family flume is the rare ride everyone does together. The rule that under-8s need someone 16 or over in the water is enforced, so two adults makes life easier with more than two children.

The trap is the calendar. It runs weekends year-round but weekdays only in Sefton's school holidays, which do not always match everyone else's. Check before promising a Tuesday.

Know before you go

  • The opening pattern is the catch: weekends only in term time, 10am to 4pm, going daily only in Sefton school holidays. Check the calendar against your own half-term dates, because boroughs differ.
  • The wave machine runs at set times each session, so ask on the way in and promise accordingly.

Seasonal: Weekends year-round; weekdays in Sefton school holidays. Check before travelling.
