Water & swimming in Southport

Southport's water splits into one indoor pool and two very different beaches. Dunes Splash World on the seafront is the wet-day one: flumes, a wave machine, a lazy river and a toddler splash zone at 29 degrees, open weekends all year and daily in the Sefton holidays.

Ainsdale is the beach for a proper seaside day, with RNLI lifeguards from late March to mid September and the option to drive onto the sand for £10. Southport Beach itself is miles of flat sand at the mouth of the Ribble, walkable from the station, but the pier has been shut since December 2022 and the on-beach car park is closed, so park on Marine Drive and treat it as a very big sandpit.
