A Halloween light trail through the woods round the lakes at Culcheth, billed as a Halloween storybook created for families and 'little adventurers'. Early bird tickets are £2 off, and infants need a ticket too.
Pumpkin picking on a family farm in Glazebury, opposite Bents. The opening weekend is ticketed and gets first access to the field; after that you walk in, and it runs every day from 24 October to Halloween. Food, drinks and cakes on site, and well-behaved dogs on leads are welcome.
Halloween at the theme park built for the under 12s: a fancy dress street parade, Gilly's Spooky Dance Party, the Monster Mansion Mine and character meet and greets on top of the usual rides. Costumes and colour rather than jump scares, which is the right way round at that age.
A lantern trail at Gulliver's with monuments, dinosaurs and dreamworlds lit up, back for 2026 with new displays. Sunday and Wednesday nights are mostly dog-friendly, so pick another night if you have a child who is wary of dogs. Parking is free. It opens for October half term, so it doubles as a Halloween outing.
A laser show and a very low-noise firework display synchronised to music, redesigned so it is fine for pets and young children. There is undercover seating with fire pits under a big tent, which helps if the weather turns.
A late-season theme park day with selected rides open to 7.30pm and fireworks at about 8pm, included in the park ticket. The display is the last thing on a very long day, so it works best for children who already love Gulliver's and can make it to eight.
Every package includes the North Pole Express to Santa's grotto and a gift the children pick themselves from the elf workshop; dearer ones add selected rides, Gully's Christmas Show and food. The £12 off-peak North Pole Express ticket is a one-hour visit with the rides switched off, which suits toddlers far better than eight year olds.
Bents' Hidden Garden turned into a Magic Lamp themed light trail with theatrical installations, soundscapes and storytelling, then a winter food market and a Christmas teepee to warm up in. Off-peak dates save £5 a head, which matters for a family: the 2+2 ticket runs from £60 to £80.
Run by Warrington Disability Partnership and built to be fully accessible: Santa, a present and a puzzle trail for £14 a child, adults £2, with festive crafts on the side. Photos are on sale on the day. The gardens, children's zoo and playground are right there, so it can be the start of a longer afternoon.
A 45-minute guided tour of the children's zoo, then a cardboard bauble to decorate and hang on the zoo's Christmas tree. Only one adult per child, because space is tight. For three to five year olds there is a longer Tiny Tots Christmas Zoo Adventure on Monday 30 November, also £15.
Letters to Father Christmas, a bacon or sausage barm, gingerbread biscuit decorating, a story with the man himself and a gift for each child. Every adult needs a ticket too, so a family of four is about £80 for ninety minutes on a Saturday morning, before anyone has looked at a bauble.

A working fruit farm with a farm shop, cafe and a free play area, plus pick your own from June to August. The strawberry tickets sell out fast and the fruit costs more than the supermarket, but nobody is here for the economics.
A 2km woodland loop round a Victorian dam on the edge of Lymm village: flat enough for a pushchair in dry weather, with a coffee van at the top and ducks all the way round. The classic short local walk, done properly.
A peat bog nature reserve with woodland trails, a visitor centre and an observation tower the kids can climb. Free, close and short enough for little legs.
The reliable default: gardens, a children's zoo, a big playground and plenty of room to run. Pay for parking, nothing else.
Free, and a proper old municipal collection of more than 200,000 objects off Bold Street, heavy on archaeology and natural science. Closed Mondays and Tuesdays.
One pool, a gym and a library on Longshaw Street, ten minutes from Warrington town centre. Nobody pretends there is a flume, but a child swims for £3.40, the same rate as the big LiveWire hubs.
