Ten actor-led shows walk you through the nastier end of Lancashire history: the plague doctor, the witch trials, a dark chapel, a lift with its own jester, finishing on a drop ride. It is played for laughs as much as screams, and the actors will pick on members of your party, which is either the best or the worst bit depending on the child.
The official recommendation is age 10 and up, and it is a fair one. It is dark, it is loud, and there are jump scares; entry below 10 is at parents' discretion and under 16s need an adult with them. Book online, it is cheaper than walking up, and it sits in the Tower building so it pairs neatly with whatever else you are doing on the seafront.
Know before you go
- Take the age guidance seriously - a nervy seven-year-old will not enjoy being singled out by an actor in the dark.
- The combined ticket with Madame Tussauds is the cheapest way in if you are doing both.
