A dependable seafront aquarium: ocean tunnel, rays, seahorses, rockpool encounters. It is an hour and a half of guaranteed engagement whatever the weather is doing to the beach plan.
Book online, go early or late to dodge the wet-day surge, and resist the gift shop exit until terms are agreed.
The ocean tunnel is the whole argument: sharks and rays passing overhead close enough to count gill slits, and it reliably stops even the children who claimed fish were boring in the car. The jellyfish room and the rockpool sessions, where staff let children handle crabs and starfish, carry the rest of the visit.
Its real role in a Blackpool week is the wet-day card, and everyone else knows it too, which is why it heaves the moment rain starts. Go at opening or after 3pm on a bad-weather day. It shares a combination ticket with the Tower attractions and Madame Tussauds, which is worth pricing if you plan more than one indoor stop.
What it costs: Book online: walk-up prices are consistently higher, and timed tickets skip the wet-day queue.

- It is everyone's rainy-day plan, so on a wet holiday morning it fills by 11am. Go at opening or mid-afternoon.
