Stamford Park is the Altrincham one with everything on a flat site: two age-split playgrounds, a basketball court, tennis, a cafe, toilets and a car park.
John Leigh has two playgrounds of its own and a Pets Corner, but no car park at all, so you will be looking for a space on the street, and small Halecroft up in Hale does have its own parking and toilets. Denzell Gardens is the trap: a walled Victorian garden with an orchid meadow and no playground whatsoever.

Hale's local park, and one of the few small ones in Trafford with its own car park and toilets. Playground, tennis, ornamental beds and a wildlife garden the Friends group planted.
John Leigh Park
Fourteen acres of sloping Altrincham parkland with two separate playgrounds, a trim track, free tennis and a Pets Corner. Green Flag. No car park, so you are parking on the street.
Stamford Park
The Altrincham park that has everything in one place: two age-split playgrounds, a basketball court, tennis, a cafe, toilets and a car park. Grade II listed, Green Flag, and flat.

Walton Hall & Gardens
The reliable default: gardens, a children's zoo, a big playground and plenty of room to run. Pay for parking, nothing else.
Risley Moss
A peat bog nature reserve with woodland trails, a visitor centre and an observation tower the kids can climb. Free, close and short enough for little legs.
Sherdley Park
St Helens' biggest park. Play areas, open space and a walled garden, and it costs nothing.
Dream, Sutton Manor
A 20-metre white head rising out of a reclaimed colliery, with woodland trails around it. Genuinely strange and memorable for kids, and a short walk rather than a hike.
Sankey Valley Park
A green corridor of canal towpath and parkland running from St Helens down towards Warrington. Flat, traffic-free and ideal if the bikes or scooters are coming.
Speke Hall
A Tudor hall with woodland walks, a maze and a natural play area in the grounds. Free if you have National Trust membership, and the indoor house is a good rain fallback.
