Tenpin Crewe is the bowling alley on the Phoenix Leisure Park off Dunwoody Way: 25 lanes under LED lighting, plus a laser tag arena, Houdini-themed escape rooms, pool tables, an arcade and a bar with the football on. It is the obvious rainy Saturday in Crewe, with food on hand and enough in one building to fill a couple of hours.
A game is from £8.30 booked online, and Tuesdays are half price, which is the play in the holidays. There is a small soft play for under 12s up to 140cm, at £3.50 to £4.50 for a two-hour session, handy when the youngest has had enough of waiting for a turn. Laser tag needs players over 4ft, is fogged and strobe-lit, and costs £36 for a 30 minute weekday slot for up to six.
What it costs: Bowling from £8.30 a game booked online; Tenpin Tuesday is 50% off bowling. Soft play from £3.50 (toddlers, 1 and 2) and £4.50 (juniors, 3 to 12), under 1s free, two-hour sessions. Laser tag £36 for 30 minutes of arena time for up to six people on weekdays, £144 for 60 minutes and up to 18 at weekends. Escape rooms from £13.50.
Know before you go
- Weekend laser tag is sold as a 60 minute, 18 player block at £144, which only makes sense for a party. For a family, go on a weekday when it is £36 for up to six.
- Soft play sessions last two hours; last booking is 5pm on weekdays and 6.30pm at weekends and in the school holidays.
- Laser tag uses UV and strobe lighting and smoke; Tenpin does not allow anyone with epilepsy, a heart condition or poor eyesight into the arena.
Worth knowing: Laser tag players must be over 4ft tall.

A family-run play centre in Crewe since 1997, built round a six-storey play frame that the owners reckon is one of the tallest in Europe. Fixed sessions, fair prices, and a separate baby and toddler time in term.

The soft play formerly known as GTC, in a converted warehouse near Crewe town centre, with its own car park, open-ended stay and play in term time and £1 adult entry. Closed on term-time Tuesdays.
