Days out with the kids in Congleton

3 places in Congleton, Cheshire, 3 of which cost nothing. Everything below is within easy reach if you live locally.

3 in Congleton3 free

Congleton is where this batch stops being thin. Congleton Park gives you twenty five acres along the River Dane, twelve Green Flag awards, a play area rebuilt for £100,000 and a paddling pool, none of which costs anything, with a cafe open 9am to 4pm every day.

Astbury Mere is a flooded sand quarry ten minutes' walk from the town centre with a flat mile long path all the way round the water, and Brereton Heath out on Davenport Lane has a permanent orienteering course, which is the single best thing here for a child who objects to walks. All three are free to walk into and only the car parks cost anything, up to £4.30 at Brereton Heath. Not one of them has a roof, so check the forecast first.
