Blackpool Pleasure Beach
The big one. Nickelodeon Land covers the primary ages properly while the Big One and the wooden coasters wait for brave older kids. August queues are real; go in expecting them and it is a great day.
Blackpool, Lancashire

Seven miles of it, and the stretch between North and Central Pier is the postcard: donkeys, deckchairs, buckets and spades, with the Tower behind and the trams rattling past. It is free in a town that charges for nearly everything, and on a warm day it is still the single best thing Blackpool does.
The practical bits matter here more than most beaches. RNLI lifeguards patrol Central and South beaches from late May to early September; swim between the flags. The tide covers nearly the whole beach twice a day and comes in across flat sand, so keep the walk out short, although the section by Central Pier stays dry even at high water.
The donkey rides are a genuine Blackpool tradition rather than a tourist add-on, running on Central Beach through the season, weather permitting. Pair the beach with Stanley Park inland or the Illuminations from September, and the free half of a Blackpool day is sorted.
Seasonal: Lifeguards patrol late May to early September. Check before travelling.

The Tower Eye's glass floor 380 feet up, a proper circus that still knows how to play to kids, and the famous ballroom below for a fancy ice cream. Buy the attractions you want rather than the bundle you will not use.

The UK's biggest indoor waterpark, kept at tropical temperature: proper toddler pools and mini slides at one end, big flumes at the other. Rainy-day Blackpool solved.

Elephants, gorillas, giraffes and sea lions in 37 acres that are actually walkable with primary-age legs - big enough to feel like a full day, small enough that nobody ends up carried.

A solid seafront aquarium with an ocean tunnel and rockpool sessions - the reliable wet-weather hour when the beach plan falls apart.

Blackpool's grand free option: Italian gardens, a big boating lake, one of the best playgrounds on the coast and model boats on the lake. The antidote to a wristband day.
