Most of this is the indoor, all-weather end of Manchester, and none of it is a theme park. Treetop Adventure Golf in the Printworks is the easy sell, two jungle-themed courses that work from about four upwards. Climbing now comes in two flavours. Depot in Trafford Park runs a proper coached kids' programme, and Rock Over by Victoria station is a big bouldering wall where under-13s climb for £9, though your first visit has to be a booked family introduction unless a parent is already a registered climber.
Zip World is the outdoor exception, in the woods of Heaton Park rather than anywhere near the Trafford Centre: treetop nets, forest tubing and high ropes treks. Its Treetot Nets session for ages 1 to 5, with a grown-up bouncing alongside, starts at £5; everything for older children starts at £19 to £35. Dress for the weather.
The last two are for older children. TeamSport, underneath the Manchester Arena, is electric karting on a multi-level track from age eight, and only if they have a 25-inch inside leg; prices appear once you start booking and not before. The Crystal Maze is the nineties show rebuilt for real, around 75 minutes of it, from £39 a head and pitched at nine and up. Save it for a birthday rather than a wet Tuesday.

Tenpin Manchester Parrs Wood
26 lanes at Parrs Wood with bumpers and ramps, plus laser tag, Prison Putt mini golf, escape rooms and an arcade. Bowling from £9.95 a game online, half price on Tuesdays, and free parking.
Depot Climbing Manchester
A serious bouldering gym in Trafford Park with a proper kids' programme: coached hour-long sessions for £11 including shoes, classes from age 4, and a parent-led play session for under-5s. No ropes, no harnesses, just deep mats.
The Crystal Maze LIVE Experience
The nineties TV show rebuilt for real: around 75 minutes of physical, mental, skill and mystery games across four themed zones, ending in the crystal dome. Brilliant from about nine up, but it is strictly 9+ and the adults have to play too.
Treetop Adventure Golf
Two indoor jungle-themed mini golf courses inside the Printworks, plus a bonus 19th hole that can win you a free round. The easiest wet-weather hour in the city centre, if not the cheapest.
Zip World Manchester
Treetop nets, high ropes and forest tubing in the woods of Heaton Park, and it is outdoors, not indoors. The cheap one is Treetot Nets: an hour bouncing on nets in the trees for ages 1 to 5, from £5, with a grown-up joining in.
Immersive Gamebox, Manchester Arndale
Private projection game rooms in the Arndale for up to six players. Paw Patrol suits three-year-olds, Angry Birds suits fives and up, and most games are 8+. Prices only show in the booking system.
National Cycling Centre
The velodrome and indoor BMX arena at the Etihad Campus runs coached sessions for children from balance bikes at age 2 to BMX and track riding, plus school holiday camps. Bikes and helmets provided.
TeamSport Go Karting Manchester Victoria
A multi-level electric kart track underneath the Manchester Arena car park, with a flyover and 15 corners. For 8-year-olds who fit the karts, and free for everyone else to watch.

Jungle Parc
Treetop rope courses in the woods at Walton Hall Gardens. The Warrington site runs the Adventurer course, built for children from age 4 with a minimum height of 1.05m, with over 60 activities at different heights. Children £19; supervising adults walking below go free.
Gulliver's World
A theme park deliberately built for ages 2 to 13 rather than teenagers, so both of them can ride most of it. The classic full-day option on your doorstep.
BeWILDerwood Cheshire
The best age match of anything on this list. Reviewers put the sweet spot at 2 to 10 and say a 4-year-old can do essentially the whole park; the map colour-codes areas by age and puts mini zipwires beside the full-size ones. Budget four to six hours.
Legoland Discovery Centre
Two rides, a 4D cinema, build zones and Manchester's skyline done in miniature bricks. Squarely aimed at 3 to 10, and it knows it: adults can only visit with a child.
The Snow Centre Manchester
Real snow all year round at the venue Manchester still calls Chill Factore. Over-fours get the Snow Park with sledging, Downhill Donuts and an ice slide at weekends and in the school holidays; older kids can learn to ski or board on the UK's longest indoor real snow slope.
East Lancashire Railway
Heritage steam and diesel trains on a 12 mile line from Heywood through Bury and Ramsbottom to Rawtenstall. A Day Rover lets you hop off at any of the seven stations and catch the next one back, and there are themed family trains through the autumn and at Christmas.
