Ormskirk is a market town with a gingerbread habit and one big family card just outside it. Farmer Ted's is the paid day, a farm park built squarely for the under-tens with enough under cover to survive Lancashire weather. Beacon Country Park rolls across the hill above town with trails, views to the coast and enough space to wear a family out for free.
The wetlands are the local secret that is not very secret. WWT Martin Mere is ten minutes away in Burscough, otters and flamingos and canoe safaris in season, with Windmill Animal Farm and its little railway close by. Southport's beach is twenty minutes west. Ormskirk itself offers a market, gingerbread, and a church with both a spire and a tower; the days out ring the town rather than fill it.

Built precisely for the under-9s: animal encounters, giant jumping pillows, tractor rides and a big indoor play barn that rescues wet days. Older siblings will tolerate it; little ones adore it.
