Excellent, but it is a lot of walking. Reviews rate 5 to 10 as the ideal age and still recommend a pushchair at four. Climbing frames, water play and sand pits break up the distance.
Halloween in the North West 2026, sorted by age
October half term in the North West runs from Saturday 24 October to Sunday 1 November 2026, and Halloween is the Saturday in the middle of it. That is about as good a draw as the calendar ever gives, and every attraction in the region knows it. So this is the list of what is actually confirmed, checked against each venue's own website on 25 September 2026, and sorted by the thing that matters most: how old your children are.
The honest bits first. Where a venue gives a price, I give it. Where it does not, I say so, rather than borrow a number from a round-up. A few big names had not announced anything when I checked, and they are listed at the bottom. Everything here also appears on the October half term page, which shows what is on each day.
Under fives: gentle, daytime, nothing that jumps out
Chester Zoo runs Halloween from Saturday 17 October to Sunday 1 November, 10am to 4.30pm. The Zoo vs You Top Trumps trail, the pumpkin sculptures and a card to take home at the end are all included in a normal zoo ticket. Nothing to book on top and nothing frightening, which makes it the safest big day out on this list. Face painting costs extra.
SEA LIFE Manchester at Trafford City does Ascarium: Tricks and Treats from 26 September to 8 November, a trail round the tanks with sea witches, a small pumpkin patch and photo spots, included in admission. Tickets are from £16 booked ahead and under 2s are free. It is indoors and warm, and on a wet Tuesday that matters more than anything else in this guide.
Blakemere Village near Northwich has a Halloween trail from 23 October to 1 November, 10am to 4pm, aimed at 3 to 10 year olds. It costs £5 a map, there is a reward at the end, and there is nothing to book. Entry and parking are free, so this is the cheapest proper Halloween outing I found in Cheshire.
Windmill Animal Farm at Burscough has moved its pumpkin picking indoors this year, so no mud, with a pumpkin per child included. Dates were not up yet. Walby Farm Park near Carlisle includes a pumpkin with every paying child ticket from 3 to 31 October, and Farmer Ted's near Ormskirk runs its Pumpkin Festival from 2 October to 1 November. Two smaller ones worth knowing. Ness Botanic Gardens on the Wirral has a book-themed Halloween trail from 24 October to 2 November, 10.30am to 3.30pm. Norton Priory in Runcorn has a Grumpy Pumpkins trail on selected half term dates and spooky stories for little ones on Thursday 29 October. Neither had a price on the page.
Five to eight: the sweet spot
This is the age Halloween is really built for, and most of the region's big set pieces aim squarely at it.
BeWILDerwood Cheshire runs Halloween on October weekends from 3 October and then every day of half term, 11am to 6pm. On top of the treehouses and zip wires there is Twig or Treating with the characters, a spooky disco and a Glowing Light Trail as the sun goes down. Some tickets are 25% off and every advance booking gets 12.5% off, so it pays to book early.
Gulliver's World in Warrington has Fright Fiesta from 10 October to 1 November, with tickets from £19 and under 90cm free: a fancy dress parade, a dance party and the Monster Mansion Mine on top of the rides. Knowsley Safari does Halloween across the whole of half term, 24 October to 1 November, on top of the drive-through reserve. Tatton Park has Skellies and Wellies, nine skeleton scenes hidden in the gardens from 24 October to 1 November, covered by ordinary garden entry but closed on the Monday.
Indoors: LEGOLAND Discovery Centre at Trafford City runs Halloween builds, glow in the dark workshops and a monster 4D film from 26 September to 1 November, from £16 online. Blue Planet Aquarium in Ellesmere Port has Boo! Planet for the nine days of half term, with trails and skeleton scuba shows. The Ice Cream Farm at Tattenhall runs a 20 minute World of Wizardry class from 24 to 31 October, potions and frog gloop included, with an SEN-friendly version on the same dates.
Two for trains and dragons rather than ghosts. Ribble Steam Railway in Preston runs spooky trains on both days of the Halloween weekend, children £7.50 and a family £32, and a haunted railbus on Wednesday 28 October. Eureka! Science + Discovery at Seacombe spends half term on myths and legends, with a real-life dragon from Teach Rex. Handy for the child who has had enough of pumpkins by midweek.
Nine and over: evenings, and a bit more edge
Older children tend to want the dark. Blakemere Village opens its Magical Woodland in the evenings between 9 October and 1 November, 5pm to 8pm, 15 acres of glowing pumpkins and live characters, billed as gentle thrills; prices were not on the page. Smithills Open Farm holds a Fright Night on Halloween itself, a spooky woodland walk from 5.30pm at £16 a head. Reddish Vale Farm lights its pumpkin patch on 17, 24 and 25 October, 5pm to 8pm, and Walby Farm Park stays open until 7pm on 27 and 28 October so you can pick at dusk.
Two more for fans of a certain boy wizard. Hoghton Tower near Preston is running its School of Witchcraft and Wizardry from Tuesday 27 to Thursday 29 October. Norton Priory has pumpkin lantern evenings in its woodland on 26 and 27 October, 5.30pm to 7.30pm.
What to steer round with younger ones: the evening Spooky World at Apple Jacks has scare attractions pitched at 10 to 14 year olds, so pick the daytime Fun By Day if your crew is smaller. SEA LIFE's Cursed Depths nights on 30 and 31 October and 1 November are the scarier after hours version of its daytime trail. Walby's pumpkin picking after dark nights are adults only.
Where the money goes, for a family of four
Standing prices only, as published on 25 September; offers come and go and are left out. The Blakemere trail is £10 if both children want a map, with free entry and parking. Farmer Ted's starts at £41.50 for a family ticket before any pumpkins. Walby is £56.80 for two adults and two children at the from prices, plus the £2 booking fee, and two pumpkins are in that. SEA LIFE or LEGOLAND at the £16 advance price is £64. Gulliver's at the £19 starting price is £76, less if one of them is under 90cm. The zoo, BeWILDerwood and Knowsley price by date, so check the day you want.
Which days to go
Saturday 31 October is Halloween, the Saturday before is the start of half term, and both will be the busiest days of the autumn wherever you go. If you can use a weekday, do. Reddish Vale Farm runs cheaper midweek Halloween days on 12 to 14 and 19 to 21 October, before half term starts, and Otterspool Adventure in Liverpool runs a toddler-sized Tottersghoul week from 19 to 23 October ahead of its main Ottersghoul week.
Still not announced
On 25 September these venues had run something last Halloween but had nothing for 2026 on their own sites: Catalyst in Widnes, the Museum of Liverpool, the Walker Art Gallery, Heaton Park, WWT Martin Mere, Arley Hall, Bramall Hall and Adventure Coast Southport. East Lancashire Railway lists Halloween ghost trains but no 2026 dates. Church Farm at Thurstaston, Claremont Farm and Farmer Parr's block the checks I use, so I could not confirm them either way. I will add them as they announce.

When is October half term 2026 in the North West?
For most North West schools it runs from Saturday 24 October to Sunday 1 November 2026, with Halloween on Saturday 31 October. Individual councils and academy trusts can differ by a day or two, so check your own school's calendar. The October half term page lists what is on each day.
What is the best Halloween day out in the North West for toddlers?

The best age match of anything on this list. Reviewers put the sweet spot at 2 to 10 and say a 4-year-old can do essentially the whole park; the map colour-codes areas by age and puts mini zipwires beside the full-size ones. Budget four to six hours.
Gulliver's World
A theme park deliberately built for ages 2 to 13 rather than teenagers, so both of them can ride most of it. The classic full-day option on your doorstep.
Knowsley Safari
Drive through the reserve from the car, then the sea lion and birds of prey shows. Reviews are split on value, and several warn that families expect a full zoo and find fewer headline animals, so set expectations first.
Tatton Park
A thousand acres of deer park with a playground, plus a mansion, 50 acres of gardens and a rare-breeds farm bolted on. The trick is knowing the car fee covers the parkland and playground, and everything else is a separate ticket.
Legoland Discovery Centre
Two rides, a 4D cinema, build zones and Manchester's skyline done in miniature bricks. Squarely aimed at 3 to 10, and it knows it: adults can only visit with a child.
Blue Planet Aquarium
Sharks over a moving walkway tunnel, all under cover. A dependable answer to a washout forecast that still feels like a proper day out.
The Ice Cream Farm
A small entry fee now, then a pay-per-play card for the attractions: a giant sand and water quarry, mini golf, go-karts and play areas, funded by a world-record ice cream shop. Cheap after 3.30pm, glorious in any weather.
Walby Farm Park
Cumbria's big family farm park: animal handling, giant jumping pillows, pedal go-karts and an indoor play barn big enough to lose a wet afternoon in. The far-north option when you are up that way.
Farmer Ted's Adventure Farm
Built precisely for the under-9s: animal encounters, giant jumping pillows, tractor rides and a big indoor play barn that rescues wet days. Older siblings will tolerate it; little ones adore it.
Reddish Vale Farm
A proper small farm park tucked into the Tame valley on Stockport's edge: cows, goats, shire horses and alpacas, zip wires outside and a play area under cover for when it rains. Book online, the gate price is higher.
Smithills Open Farm
A proper hands-on farm day: bottle feeding, donkey rides, a tractor trailer tour and small animal handling, with enough under cover to survive drizzle. Built for the under-9s.
Ribble Steam Railway & Museum
Steam trains along Preston's dockside with a museum shed full of engines, a playground and a tea room all on one ticket that covers all-day travel. A Saturday railway, so check the calendar before you promise anyone a train.
Eureka! Science + Discovery
A hands-on science centre built precisely for this age group - walk-through lungs and a supersize brain in the new Bodies gallery, inventions to test, and the ferry stop is literally outside. Entry converts to an annual pass, which changes the maths entirely.
Ness Botanic Gardens
University of Liverpool's gardens above the Dee estuary: family trails, a wildflower meadow, a good playground and views across to Wales. Quieter than the National Trust circuit and better value.
Norton Priory
The most excavated monastic site in Europe, with a medieval undercroft, a giant statue of St Christopher and a walled garden that does apple days and bug hunts. Close, cheap and quietly excellent.
Otterspool Adventure
An adventure play park by the Mersey promenade - climbing frames, jumping pillows, go-karts and an indoor barn - that keeps coming up when Liverpool parents list what actually works. Walk it off on the prom afterwards.
